PDX Jumps on Food Hall Bandwagon; City Grocery’s Big Bad Pop-Ups

January 15, 2015 0

And Momofuku’s next “One Night” dinner.

PORTLAND— PDX is the latest city to jump on the food hall bandwagon: As NYC readies for its Anthony Bourdain-curated Bourdain Hall, Eater PDX reports the city’s west side will soon welcome the Pine Street Market, featuring a half-dozen as-yet-unnamed food vendors. Feast Portland co-founder Mike Thelin has been tapped as the project’s “culinary curator,” and Thelin compares the project to Seattle’s Melrose Market: “smaller, more intimate, more neighborhood oriented.” [EPDX]

OXFORD— Acclaimed Southern chef John Currence resurrects his “Big Bad Pop-Up” dinner series for the third year in a row, featuring a rotating line-up of visiting chefs and temporary concepts at his Oxford icon City Grocery. Dinners kick off January 19 with Currence’s own American-Chinese “Sleepy Dragon Project,” while the following week, Atlanta chefs Vishwesh Bhatt and Asha Gomez will offer their take on “Mumbai, Mississippi.” In early February, chef Kelly English (whose new Oxford restaurant will open soon) stops in. NEW YORK CITY— The latest installment of Momofuku Ssam Bar‘s ongoing “One Night” series will feature Nashville chef Philip Krajeck of Rolf & Daughters. The dinners will take place Tuesday, January 20, with two seatings already sold out: Those interested in tickets will have to choose from the early-bird (5:45p.m.) and night-owl (12:30a.m., January 21) options.
