American Restaurant Scarlet Oak Coming to Capitol Riverfront

909The official tree of the District of Columbia—Scarlet Oak—will be the name of an American restaurant coming to 909 New Jersey Ave. SE from the owners of Adams Morgan's Southern Hospitality.

Co-owner Peter Lupo says the menu will have some carryover from Southern Hospitality, including the fried chicken and chicken and waffles. But there will also be new stuff like pizzas and flatbreads. Drinks will include specialty cocktails and a large wine by the glass and beer selection.

The space, across the street from a future Whole Foods, will have about 100 seats inside plus a 75-seat patio with awning.

Lupo expects Scarlet Oak to open in December or January.
