There's a new destination on 14th Street for the $14 cocktail: Quarter+Glory quietly opened last week with a list of more than 25 cocktails. (To be fair, some are only $12.)
The bar comes from Public House Collective, a New York-based nightlife group that describes its first D.C. venture as "Dignified for the Discerning and Bold for the Courageous," whatever that means.
The bar gets its name from "an alleged New York literary society" that ended each meeting by raising a glass and chanting, "Give me Quarter and Glory!" As part of its ode to "creative types," the menu is interspersed with quotes from the likes of film director John Ford and novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. ("First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.")
The cocktail menu includes classics—from negronis to cosmos—as well as originals, like the Quarter+Glory with rum, Scotch, Punt e Mes, bitters, tamarind vinegar, and salt. Barrel-aged concoctions include a Fireball shot made with whiskey, Fernet, cinnamon, and Tabasco. There are also beer and shot combos for $10 or $11 as well as an extensive bourbon list. If you'd rather drink beer and wine, they've got that too behind the 33-foot bar.
There's no food for now, but stay tuned.
Formerly Jin Lounge, the two-story building has been combined into one with very high ceilings. The bar is outfitted with exposed brick, industrial light fixtures, hardwood floors, and leather banquettes. In other words, it's the quintessential bar and restaurant look of 2013.
