Affogato Recipes That Shake Up Tradition

We love the Italians for many reasons -- pasta, parmesan, olive oil -- but one of the most important attributes is their genius way of serving coffee and ice cream. They don't just serve the two side-by-side as an after-dinner course. No, the Italians do one better and pour a strong, hot shot of espresso on top of a scoop of cold ice cream. It's called an affogato and it is a revelation in the dessert world.

While the affogato is traditionally nothing more than a shot of espresso and a scoop of vanilla ice cream, one can't help but elaborate on such a glorious union. We've found recipes that sneak in hazelnut liqueur, ones that swap the espresso out for chai and some that use olive oil gelato. You're going to want to try ALL of these.
