Fried Chicken and Doughnut Spot GBD Is Closing

After three years in Dupont Circle, fried chicken and doughnut shop GBD will close after tomorrow. Neighborhood Restaurant Group plans to renovate the space and open a new restaurant within a month or two.

NRG Director of Public Relations Megan Bailey is keeping quiet about exactly what that new concept will be or which chef might run it. What we do know is that the restaurant group's beer director, Greg Engert, will continue to oversee the beer offerings. "The bites are changing, but the bar is staying," an announcement on Twitter reads.

Asked why the group decided to close GBD and whether the restaurant wasn't doing well, Bailey only said, "No, it's just time for something new and exciting in that space."

GBD opened in 2013 in the midst of D.C.'s doughnut craze, and coincidentally, around the same time as Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken. The opening menu was developed by pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac and her husband, chef Kyle Bailey, both of whom have since moved on from Neighborhood Restaurant Group.
