Hot Tanned Rice Balls

rice-balls

What do you do of the left over rice you had made for dinner last night? Give it to your dog? Or sometimes use the same one for lunch the next day? Well, you don’t have to do either of the things anymore. All you need is left over rice and some nice colourful vegetables for your brand new rice balls for lunch or brunch.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup last night’s cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped spinach
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-green chilli paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 water
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying

Method to prepare:

Take a bowl. Add the leftover cooked rice in it. Throw in the shredded carrots, finely chopped onions, chopped spinach, some rice flour, a teaspoon of ginger- green chilli paste with a dust of salt and a teaspoon of sugar. Mix the ingredients well with 1/4th cup of water. Once you feel that the mixture is properly mixed, start making 20 equal portions of it.  Shape each of the 20 portions in round balls. Once all the balls are rounded well, take a pan. Heat it well. Add oil in it. Make sure you add oil enough as you need to deep fry the balls. Deep fry them until they start appearing in golden brown colour. Place a tissue paper on a plate and throw the tanned balls in it.

Serve it when it is hot, it tastes well this way. The recipe serves 20 rice balls. It hardly requires some 15-20 minutes of your time.

Tip Alert: as mentioned earlier, you could add any vegetables of your choice to the cooked rice. This way your kid gets some nutrients from the vegetables. Also this a best way to disguise the vegetables your kid hates. The rice balls are so yummy that the little smarty wouldn’t notice them. You can even eat the hot tanned rice balls with ketchup. And lastly it is not always required for you to prepare this recipe only when there is leftover rice.
