La Colombe Opens Second D.C. Shop in Chinatown on Sunday

Philadelphia-based coffee roaster and cafe La Colombe's second location in D.C. will be slightly bigger than its first. Opening Nov. 15 at 900 6th St. NW, the new spot will have room for coffee "cuppings," or tastings, and brewing classes.

Founder Todd Carmichael says sampling coffees coming in from around the world is part of his daily routine. "In our other cities, we're able to bring that out into the open," he says. "We just spend an hour or so with people and show them the things that we love." Now, they'll be able to do the same in D.C.

Beyond that, the offerings in Chinatown will be pretty similar to its Blagden Alley counterpart, including farm-direct, single-origin coffees and draft lattes. La Colombe will continue to serve an array of pastries, and Carmichael says they're experimenting with more savory options going forward. The 1,700-square-foot space will also have a little courtyard.

As for future D.C. expansion? Carmichael says they don't have plans to build any certain number of cafes, but "I would like to see a few more in D.C."
