Watch out, Rose's Luxury. There's a new line in town. New York-based sweet shop Milk Bar opened in CityCenterDC on Friday, followed by mega-chef David Chang's new restaurant Momofuku CCDC on Saturday. The two connected eateries attracted dueling lines over the weekend. On one side, crowds queued for more than an hour to grab cereal milk soft-serve and crack pie. On the other, they bided their time for bowls of ramen and pork buns.
Momofuku CCDC (as in CityCenterDC) will begin taking a limited number of reservations today at 10 a.m. for tables 30 days out. The majority of the dining room will be set aside for walk-ins.
The opening menu includes a classic Momofuku ramen with a rich, slightly smoky broth, pork belly, pork shoulder, and poached egg. Other large bowls are filled with kimchi stew or chilled spicy noodles with Szechuan sausage, spinach, and candied cashews.
The rest of the menu includes four types of buns, salads, and snacks like Old Bay pork rinds and sweet and sour pork jerky. One standout snack from my early visit: biscuit bites with a Szechuan honey butter. Milk Bar desserts are also available at the restaurant.
