Will Claudia’s Steakhouse Be Even More Sexualized Than STK?

"Not Your Daddy's Steakhouse" STK introduced D.C. to the oversexed steakhouse (while simultaneously purporting to be female-friendly). But it looks like Claudia's Steakhouse, coming to 15th and K streets NW in April, will give the restaurant some serious competition in the "meat market" department.

Claudia's has added some seductive window wraps, including one that reads "Steaks... for the Latin Lover." Another looks strikingly similar to the advertisements that STK formerly used. (From what I can tell, STK's website no longer contains the photos of a red stiletto piercing a steak or a long pair of legs with a meat cleaver. The homepage now sticks strictly to images of food and decor.) Here's Claudia's on the left and an old STK image on the right:

Meanwhile, many of the Shutterstock images flashing across Claudia's website look like they could also be repurposed for a call girl service:

The restaurant describes itself as "a destination place for lively music, fine food, and socializing (South Beach style) across the nation." (Keep in mind there's only one location, and it hasn't opened yet. That said, CEO Charles Adams plans to open 10 restaurants concentrated in D.C., Los Angeles, and Miami over the next five years, according to the website.) The "modern chic steakhouse restaurant" also promises "a Latin flare and sensual spices."

The dining room and lounge sound like they could double as the set of The Bachelor with white leather chairs, couches, and love seats surrounded by warm colors, fresh flowers, and candles. "Theatrical lights illuminate each table, while smoky mirrors allow patrons to catch a glimpse of the surroundings while a DJ creates an energetic vibe throughout the entire space," the website reads.

Just like STK, Claudia's will also offer small, medium, and large cuts of meat. (Focus, we're talking about food now.) Chef and co-owner Claudia Rivas, who ran Brasas Grill in Waldorf, Md., will also serve jumbo lump crab cakes, tamarind barbecue baby back ribs, "drunken rib-eye," and more. Diners will be waited on by staff "uniformed in professional chic attire." It should be interesting to see what kind of professional they mean.
