If you want a piece of Mr. Smith’s, now’s your chance to snag an antique lamp or stained glass window. The Georgetown restaurant closed its M Street NW location after nearly 50 years at the end of last month and has already relocated to a new space where Chadwicks used to be.
The vast majority of Mr. Smith’s stuff from the original location is now being auctioned off by Rasmus Auctions. Up for grabs: TVs, beer signs, a bar, kitchen equipment, statues from the garden patio, glassware with the Mr. Smith’s logo, and much more. Potential bidders can stop by for a look tomorrow (Sept. 9) from 12 to 4 p.m. The online auction closes on Wednesday.
But there are a few things not available to the highest bidder. While the new Mr. Smith’s has pretty much just adopted Chadwicks decor, general manager Juan Andino says they did keep a few things from the original location, including artwork, a couple Tiffany lamps, and a mirror.
Oh, and the singalong piano. Andino says Mr. Smith's longtime piano player Jon Adelson performed for the first time at the new spot over the weekend. "People came in and saw him at his old piano," Andino says. "They were really, really happy."
